Artwork Design for Dalki Garringa Native Nursery Signage Project

PROJECT BRIEF

Dalki Garringa Native Nursery (DGNN) and Barengi Gadjin Land Council (BGLC) are looking for a  Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia and Jupagulk Traditional Owner (WJJWJ) artists/designers to create a custom artwork that will be used  on wayfinding and interpretive signage and incorporated into DGNN’s new Welcome Place landscaping re-design project.

The artwork will live alongside DGNN and BGLC’s existing brand logo mark and be used across the site for various wayfinding and interpretive signage purposes.

We are looking for a strong, graphic artwork that has clearly defined elements, shapes and/or linework that can be digitised for use on the signage. The artwork can be a physical artwork (painting or drawing that we will then digitise) or it can be supplied in a digital format (preferably vector or high resolution JPEG)

BACKGROUND

DGNN – BGLC are currently undergoing major landscaping works known as the Welcome Place Project, that involves the  re-designing and construction  of the nursery  to enhance the visitor experience and amenity. The Welcome Place landscape design incorporates references to our five mobs and inspirations from our surrounding landscape including the Pink Lake, culturally modified trees, Dyurrite, Gariwerd and the River, lakes landscape.

Welcome Place Signage Project:

Good wayfinding and interpretive signage throughout the Welcome Place will help visitors engage deeply with story telling and add a depth of understanding about what we do and offer here at BGLC/DGNN. Incorporating a WJJWJ artist design as the main graphic element on the signage will further deepen connection to place and story.

SCOPE

The Artwork will be used within the following signage contexts:

  1.  Various wayfinding signs to support visitor orientation and direction while on site.

  2. Various interpretive signs to support visitor understanding of story, place and the work of DGNN

  3. Elements of the artwork will be laser cut into and across several large steel panels and fire pit.

For the selected artwork, the Artist understands and agrees that:

-  The submitted artwork will become the basis for the graphic design of the final signage templates that will be implemented across many areas of the nursery.

-  The submitted artwork may be used in its complete form, or elements from it might appear as details in the final signage.

-  The Graphic Designer will confer with the artist before signing off on the final signage templates.

-  The content on each sign will be the responsibility of DGNN and is not the responsibility of the artist.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR  - STYLE CONTENT THEMES

The Welcome Place Artwork will be selected for its graphic design potential demonstrating:

·         A strong, graphic artwork with clearly defined elements.

·         Its prospective use in a variety of different signage contexts, shapes and sizes.

It would be advantageous if the artwork includes:

·         DGNN brand colours as shown in the DGNN logo.

·         Elements that can be isolated and used as individual graphics if needed.

The artwork may be used in its complete form, or elements from it might appear as details in the final signage (in consultation with the artist).

Artwork can be a physical artwork, or a HR digital piece (vector artwork preferred for digital).
