Opportunity
An exciting opportunity for WJJWJ women artists and First Nations curators has emerged through a partnership between Horsham Regional Art Gallery (HRAG) and Barengi Gadjin Land Council (BGLC)
ABOUT the Project
The This Is Me Exhibition Project is a pilot exhibition project in partnership with the Horsham Regional Art Gallery that celebrates the creative achievements of WJJWJ Women artists in an exhibition at HRAG between March – May 2024.
Provisionally titled This is me, the Exhibition will be created in direct response to the National Gallery of Australia’s Know My Name, a travelling all women’s art exhibition that HRAG will be hosting in early 2024.
The This is me exhibition will highlight the work of 11 established/practicing artists from the Wotjobaluk Nation in the Mack Jost Gallery space on Level 1 of HRAG.
Artists can be living on or off Country.
Each Artist will enter into a license agreement directly with the Gallery and be paid a fee for the use of their work.
A First Nations Curator and WJJWJ Curatorial Intern will be engaged by BGLC to advise and assist with the development of this exhibition directly with the Gallery.
This is me exhibition will have a high-profile launch event outcome during International Women’s Day hosted at the Horsham Town Hall and Gallery.
BGLC will partner with HRAG to facilitate the WJJWJ Artists and families to attend and participate in associated events.
AIMS:
This is me Exhibition – is a pilot project that aims to create opportunities for localised First Nation artist responses to visiting Art exhibitions that HRAG is presenting within its program.
It also aims to create direct relationships between the Artists and the Gallery while also investing in relationships with experienced and emerging First Nations Curators.
Funding:
This exciting project is funded The Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund, which is provided through Regional Arts Australia, administered in Victoria by Regional Arts Victoria.
