Barengi Gadjin Land Council (BGLC) represents the Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia and Jupagulk Peoples, protecting cultural heritage, strengthening culture, caring for Country, and supporting Community self-determination.
The Growing What is Good Country Plan is our community’s vision for caring for Wotjobaluk Country, protecting cultural heritage, and strengthening the self-determination of the Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia and Jupagulk Peoples.
Developed through deep Member engagement, it sets out our shared priorities, aspirations, and responsibilities, guided by cultural knowledge, community voices, and our obligations to care for Country now and for future generations.
This plan is both a roadmap and a commitment: a living document that will guide BGLC’s work and decision-making, and ensure our actions reflect the values and aspirations of our Peoples.
The Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) Map shows the boundaries where Barengi Gadjin Land Council holds responsibilities under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 for protecting Aboriginal cultural heritage.
BGLC is the appointed RAP for Wotjobaluk Country, representing the Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia and Jupagulk Peoples. The RAP area reflects our cultural authority, knowledge, and responsibilities to care for Country, protect cultural heritage and significant sites, and ensure that decisions about cultural heritage management are made by the rightful Traditional Owners.

Under Rules 5.2 and 5.5 of the Corporation’s Rulebook, members have the right to stand for and vote in the election of a director representing each family group with whom they identify. Each of the eleven family groups are linked to one of the eight (8) apical Ancestors identified in the Corporation’s Rulebook.
All members of a family group have the right to stand for election to represent the family group with which they identify. In addition to the family group directors, the Board holds one seat for an independent or specialist non-member director.
Directors are responsible for the Corporation’s overall performance, governance, and compliance. They operate in a highly responsible role within a rapidly changing environment and must establish a sound corporate governance system while balancing the expectations and demands of members, regulators, legislation, broader society, and any voluntary codes of conduct the Corporation adopts.
