About the Role

The Cultural Fire Ranger participates in the maintenance of sites on Country through the use of Cultural Burning practices, preparing and conducting cool burns to manage vegetation and taking part in higher intensity burns and emergency response as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement Cultural Burning practices at designated sites throughout the region, ensuring burns are conducted safely and benefit the health of the sites
  • Perform site preparation and non-burning management of vegetation, including weed control, brush cutting and mowing
  • Coordinate with State government entities to undertake higher intensity burns and participate in emergency response as necessary
  • Gather data on the ground to assist in the monitoring of the program

Key Selection Criteria

  • Ability to gain accreditation to participate in DEECA fire response, and any other necessary training
  • Reasonable physical fitness to move around large outdoor sites and complete fire response training
  • Unrestricted manual driver’s licence (or ability to obtain)
  • Ability to follow direction and safety protocols
  • Enthusiasm for Cultural Practice and caring for environments
