About the Role

The WNLLEP Coordinator will be responsible for leading the overall delivery of the Wotjobaluk Nations Language, Learning, and Engagement Program (WNLLEP), to enhance the practice and appreciation of the Wergaia language and cultural performance in the region through meaningful connection to story, Country and community. This will involve taking the lead managing schedules and budgets, as well as working with Elders, community and third-parties to support the delivery of events such as workshops, rehearsals and performances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage Wotjobaluk Traditional Owners, particularly young people, artists musicians and language experts, in workshops, performances and other engagement events
  • Work with Elders, knowledge holders, BGLC teams and partner organisations, ensuring cultural protocols are followed in all program activities and creating culturally safe spaces that support healing, identity and the return of language
  • Support the Traditional Owner language programs such as the BGLC Language Committee, ensuring the group is resourced, informed, and effectively guiding language decisions, and work to embed language in workplace culture and communication;
  • Manage timelines, budgets and reporting for all projects within the role

Key Selection Criteria

  • Qualification in community development, Indigenous studies, education, project management, or a related field (or equivalent significant experience);
  • Experience in delivering community arts, cultural programs, youth engagement, or language-related projects (formal qualifications are welcome but not essential);
  • Exceptional organisational, project planning, time management and reporting skills, with demonstrated experience
  • A strong understanding of, or willingness to learn, cultural protocol and performance practice
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to prepare reports, coordinate meetings, and engage respectfully with a wide range of stakeholders;
  • Enthusiasm working alongside Elders, community leaders and young people
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Adaptability to respond to shifting priorities and feedback from the community with flexibility and care;
  • Familiarity with ‘Growing What is Good’ Country Plan
  • A willingness to travel throughout and beyond the region, working after hours or on weekends in support of community-led events as necessary.
